Circle’s CEO believes that stablecoins should not be regulated by the SEC

Following the US Securities and Exchange Commission's recent crackdown on several crypto companies, Jeremy Allaire opined that the agency is not the best choice to oversee stablecoins in particular.

He believes that these assets are part of the banking sector and therefore need to be regulated by another regulator in the states.

• Tage später schickte die SEC eine Wells-Warnung an Paxos, in der sie dem Unternehmen vorwarf, bei der Ausgabe der Stablecoin Binance USD (BUSD) nicht registrierte Wertpapiere zu verkaufen.
• Dies brachte viele Käfige in der Community durcheinander, da Stablecoins weithin als Nicht-Wertpapiere galten. Es lenkte auch die Aufmerksamkeit auf andere Stablecoin-Emittenten wie Tether und Circle.
• Der CEO des letzteren – Jeremy Allaire – sprach mit Bloomberg über die aktuelle Situation und behauptete, dass die SEC nicht die richtige Aufsichtsbehörde für solche Kryptowährungsanlagen zu sein scheint.

"I do not believe that the SEC is the regulator of stablecoins. There is a reason why the government everywhere in the world, including the US, explicitly says that payment stablecoins are a payment system and a banking regulatory activity."

• Dennoch gab Allaire zu, dass „nicht alle Stablecoins gleich geschaffen sind“. Dies geschieht weniger als ein Jahr, nachdem der umstrittene algorithmische Versuch von Terra (UST) auf praktisch 0 US-Dollar zusammengebrochen ist und das gesamte 40-Milliarden-Dollar-Ökosystem ausgelöscht hat.
• Gleichzeitig lobte der CEO von Circle den jüngsten Vorschlag der SEC, strengere Regeln für Kryptoverwahrer einzuführen.

“We believe it is a very important market structure and very valuable to have qualified custodians who can provide the appropriate control structures and insolvency protections,” Allaire said. "We've learned a lot of lessons that random exchanges have your fortune. There's a reason why you have this kind of rule."
