Ordinal numbers are now on Litecoin
In pursuit of a bounty of over $2000, a programmer has successfully imported Ordinals' NFT protocol into Litecoin.
The new functionality comes shortly after Bitcoin – the network on which Ordinals originally launched – surpassed 150,000 enrollments this week.
Why Litecoin gets atomic numbers
On Sunday, a programmer named Anthony Guerrera launched Litecoin Ordinals onGitHubby forking the Bitcoin repository for the project published last month by Casey Rodarmor.
The Bitcoin-based version allows Satoshis to be labeled with data including images and videos, effectively bringing NFTs onto a network once oftencriticizedbecause they are missing.
Things changed thanks to Bitcoin's Taproot upgrade in November 2021, which brought Bitcoin more privacy and smart contract features, with Ordinals as an unforeseen consequence. Litecoin contains soft forks of Bitcoin's SegWit and Taproot technology, which are required for Ordinals to work.
On February 10, a Twitter user and self-professed “Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Dogecoin advocate,” @indigo_Nakamoto, promised5 LTC ($470) to anyone who could port the Ordinals repository to Litecoin. This bounty grew to 22 LTC by Thursday last week, off Guerrera announcedthe Litecoin protocol launch on Saturday.
The following day, he announced the first Litecoin enrollment: the white paper for MimbleWimble, a Litecoin upgrade that improves transaction speed and privacy (other dimensions that Bitcoin was onexamined).
The first #Litecoin #Ordinal was enrolled on the Litecoin blockchain.

Unlike NFTs on other networks, Ordinals embeds the image data for NFTs directly into the blockchain, thereby taking up significant block space. However, Litecoin's use of MimbleWimble makes Ordinals capable of processing more data at lower transaction costs than Bitcoin.
Assumption of ordinal numbers
Taproot Adoption hasgrownexponentially paralleled the increase in ordinal numbers, with 4.83% of transactions taking advantage of the upgrade on Tuesday, according toDune analysis. Last month it was less than 2%.
Bitcoin-based NFTs have also been a boon for miners, generating over $1.17 million in fees since their launch. According to BitMEX, the first atomic number depicting a spooky-looking skeleton was registered on Bitcoin in December.
Certain software wallet providers are now starting to introduce Ordinals support, including Xverse – a Web3-focused Bitcoin wallet. Ken Liao, the founder and CEO of Xverse, was a former engineering partner at Stacks – a Bitcoin programmability layer that enabled smart contracts and NFTs on Bitcoin before Ordinals.
Stacks (STX) is up 130% for the week, driven in large part by Ordinals' growth.
