Revolution in the financial system: How tokenized assets are changing everything

On September 30, 2025, fintech analytics firm Rebank released a report titled “Real World Assets: The Practitioner’s Guide,” highlighting the potential of Real World Assets (RWAs) to transform the financial system. The report makes a significant comparison: RWAs could be viewed as the “email moment” of finance due to their ability to eliminate middlemen and enable real-time transactions, as Crypto News reports.

Traditionally, assets were stored in isolated databases and required third parties for transactions. With tokenization, on the other hand, assets can be transferred and exchanged between the parties immediately and without prior negotiations. One of the key advantages of RWAs is their programmability, allowing holders to swap tokenized treasuries for stablecoins or use tokenized loans as collateral in DeFi protocols.

Growth forecasts for RWAs

Although the RWA market is currently small, significant growth is forecast. By 2025, tokenized U.S. Treasuries are expected to represent several billion dollars in assets under management (AUM), compared to a total U.S. Treasury market of $20 trillion. In the stablecoin space, the volume is approximately $280 billion, while bank deposits in the US are over $18 trillion.

While tokenized money market funds (MMFs) hold billions, this is only a fraction compared to the $8 trillion global money market fund market. The report draws parallels between RWAs and the early growth of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which were once considered a niche product but eventually revolutionized the investment management landscape.

Outlook and meaning

Rebank’s report highlights the important role that RWAs could play in the future financial landscape. Their ability to make transactions faster and more efficient could not only transform access to financial services in the long term, but also significantly reduce the costs of many transactions. As technology becomes more widely accepted and grows, the financial system could undergo fundamental change.

With an understanding of RWAs and their potential, it becomes clear that we may be on the cusp of a new digital financial era that will revolutionize the way we do business and invest.
