AOC says she doesn't hold Bitcoin so lawmakers can 'do their jobs ethically' -

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known as AOC, is a New York representative known for her political positions and statements. The Democrat thinks it's "absolutely wild" that US officials can buy and trade popular stocks. AOC also believes it is unethical for members of Congress to own cryptocurrencies.

AOC doesn’t hold crypto because she wants to “remain impartial.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) discussed owning Bitcoin ( BTC ) in a recent Instagram story she said on Monday. AOC stated that she does not believe members of Congress should own stocks and that she believes the same morality applies to digital currencies. During her Instagram Story, AOC said she doesn't hold up BTC because she wants to remain impartial and an unbiased legislator.

"Because we have access to sensitive information and upcoming policies, I don't believe members of Congress should hold [or] trade individual stocks and choose not to hold any so I can remain impartial when marking policy," AOC insisted on Instagram. "I'm also extending this to digital assets/currency (especially since I sit on the Financial Services Committee). So the answer is no, because I want to do my job as ethically and nonpartisan as possible," AOC further emphasized in her Instagram story.

In 2017, AOC said she was unsure about FEC laws regarding crypto

Almost four years ago, in December 2017, AOC asked if she accepts Bitcoin after she tweeted about a fundraiser this year. “Not [until] Actblue does it,” AOC called at that time. "Also, I'm not sure about the FEC laws regarding crypto. Good question," she added. “Unfortunately, reporting this information is required by law and must be collected even when collecting monetary donations,” AOC continued on Twitter. “It is unfortunate that our campaign finance laws require more stringent reporting on regular small donors than Superpacs.”

Lately AOC has started heated debates over her “Tax the Rich” Met Gala dress. She and her colleagues Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley tried Getting President Joe Biden to choose someone other than Jerome Powell to lead the Federal Reserve. Biden ultimately chose Powell, but AOC wanted the US president to choose a Fed chair who would address social change and the so-called climate crisis.
