Bitcoin Frogs jumps to #1 in NFT trading volume
According to data from CryptoSlam, a leading on-chain NFT analytics aggregator, Bitcoin Frogs sales reached over $2.2 million in trading volume on the day. On Wednesday, May 17, the Frogs sold more Bored Apes NFTs.
Some of the BAYC sellers may have even spent money to buy PEPE Coin in the meantime. A lot of that has happened in this season of Pepe fever.
Data from CryptoSlam shows that Bitcoin Frogs were sold at an average price of 0.12 BTC (around $3,200) on Wednesday. The PEPE-inspired sales boom overtook the Bored Apes Yacht Club despite the higher average selling price of around $83,000 for the blue-chip NFT.
BRC-20 brings PEPE mania to Bitcoin
BAYC’s NFT trading volume on the day was 11 transactions. Meanwhile, insatiable demand for Frog meme cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin Ordinal NFTs pushed Bitcoin Frogs transactions to 627 on Wednesday. Buyers are picking up the cute frog meme ordinals from NFT marketplaces like Magic Eden and Ordinals Wallet.
Incorporating cool NFT features like generative AI to generate unique properties at each mint brings the artistry of smart contract minting to the Bitcoin blockchain.
But the mint has been calibrated to maintain some fungibility among the frogs. The project states: “The rarity of all features within each layer is the same, allowing a subjective appreciation of aesthetics and Satoshi-based rarity to emerge.”
Two separate meme coin manias have joined forces to fuel high demand for Bitcoin Frogs. One of them is the frog trend initiated by PEPE coin's meteoric rise at the beginning of the month.
The other is the Bitcoin atomic number trend that started in January. The number of Bitcoin atomic numbers reached the 5 million mark earlier this month. The number of BRC-20 tokens issued doubled in a week, setting a new record.
