Cboe Launches Continuous Bitcoin and Ethereum Futures in December!
On November 17, 2025, Cboe Global Markets announced that it would launch new “perpetual-style” futures contracts for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) next month. These innovative products, called “continuous futures,” are currently undergoing regulatory review before they are scheduled to begin trading on December 15th. The launch of these futures is a significant step towards providing institutional investors with a regulated cryptocurrency trading environment.
The continuous futures have a term of ten years from listing and offer daily cash settlements, which mimic permanent exposure. Rob Hocking, global head of derivatives at Cboe, emphasizes that these new products will allow clients to interact in a regulated manner with digital assets that are otherwise largely traded offshore.
Efficient risk management and market transparency
The structure of the new futures aims to enable efficient portfolio and risk management. Investors gain the opportunity to gain controlled leverage on digital assets. Furthermore, the Cboe Bitcoin Continuous Futures (PBT) and Ether Continuous Futures (PET) use real-time prices from crypto data firm Kaiko to precisely track the price of the underlying assets.
Anne-Claire Maurice, managing director of derived data at Kaiko, highlights that the new products address a real need for institutional investors seeking efficient and long-term crypto exposure. The continuous futures are also intended to eliminate the operational friction that can arise when rolling positions while providing the transparency and oversight of regulated markets.
Market reactions and future developments
Cboe's announcement comes at a time when demand for regulated products in the crypto industry is increasing. Analysts and investors are showing great interest in continuous futures as they provide an interesting opportunity to diversify portfolios. Cboe is committed to taking a pioneering role in the regulated crypto market and meeting the growing needs of institutional investors with these new products.
