On September 17, Opensea, the largest non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace by volume, announced the launch of the platform's mobile application. Opensea launches mobile app for iOS and Android phones

According to marketplace statistics from dappradar.com, Opensea is the largest NFT market in terms of global trading volume. All-time statistics show that Opensea recorded 625,620 traders and $6.53 billion in volume. Axie Infinity and Cryptopunks' NFT collection are falling behind Opensea's volume as Axie Infinity has taken in $2.11 billion and Cryptopunks has taken in $1.31 billion.

Most recently, Opensea added support for Polygon (MATIC) and towards the end of July the leading marketplace announced $100 million capital increase. Opensea has seen further Record sales but on September 15, the company announced that an employee had been caught using insider information to trade.

The management of the NFT market detailed that Opensea team members “may not buy or sell from collections or creators” while being promoted by Opensea. Additionally, “Opensea team members are prohibited from using confidential information to buy or sell NFTs, whether or not they are available on the Opensea platform,” the team explained last week.

Opensea Sees Significant Demand for a Mobile App, Leading NFT Marketplace Has Huge Competition

Two days later, Opensea announced the launch of the platform's mobile application, available for iOS and Android operating systems.

“The call for a mobile app is growing and we have been working hard to bring it to life,” Opensea said on Friday. "Making NFTs more accessible to everyone is one of our core missions here at OpenSea, and we believe this is a big step in an exciting direction. NFTs in the palm of your hand."

Opensea is not the only marketplace on the block and the leading market has a lot of competition. While Opensea's volumes are huge, NFT marketplaces such as Rarible, Superrare, Makersplace, Foundation, Mintable, Atomicwallet and others regularly sell NFTs. In addition, NFT markets also sell on other blockchains such as Avalanche, Solana and Tezos.

Some of these marketplaces also conducted capital raises in 2021. Opensea's mobile application is likely to expand the reach of the platform and the company aims to improve the app over time.
