Blockchain network Solana experienced issues processing blocks on September 14th, and according to a status report dated September 15th at 2:01 a.m. EST, the Solana validator community has “successfully completed a mainnet beta restart.”

Solana validators restart mainnet beta

Solana is now a member of the blockchain club stalled for several hours Prevent people from sending SOL transactions, use decentralized apps (dapps), and cause significant problems for block explorers and wallets. In the early hours of Wednesday morning, following Solana's block production status on Tuesday, the Solana Status Twitter account provided an update to the community. The official Solana Twitter page also retweeted the Solana status tweet.

“The Solana validator community has successfully completed a mainnet beta restart after upgrading to 1.6.25,” Solana Status explained. “Dapps, block explorers and supporting systems will recover over the next few hours, then full functionality should be restored.” Despite the reboot, people still complained about errors stemming from two different block explorers. The person said:

Why [do] Solscan and Explorer have different block heights? Solscan hasn't shown any new blocks for an hour. The Explorer's clock is also wrong. Has Solana forked again?

Solana Users Demand Compensation, Solana's Use of Blockchain Questioned, Software Developer Explains Solana's Bug Differences from Ethereum's 2016 Issuance

In response to the Solana status report at 2:01 a.m. this morning, some people asked for compensation. “Please compensate us Solana holders for screwing us over since the crash,” one person on Twitter responded to the Solana status update. Solana's blockchain community has received a lot of criticism over the outage, with some questioning why the network uses a blockchain at all.

“Why does Solana even use a blockchain?” the Twitter account “Mike in Space” tweeted on Tuesday. "If you can just shut it down for 'maintenance' all day, it doesn't sound very censorship resistant to me," he added. An individual replied to Mike in Space's tweet and said: "It doesn't matter that it's not censorship resistant because its main use case is something else." But that didn't satisfy the cryptocurrency supporter and he responded:

Then why not a database? Seems like a lot of unnecessary overhead.

Ethereum developer Hudson Jameson wrote about how he believes what happened with Solana “is not the same as what happened during the Ethereum Shanghai attacks in 2016, but I understand why people think that.”

"Both attacks were DoS attacks designed to block production, so that's similar. The big difference is that due to our multi-client design decisions, Ethereum blocks never stopped producing during the attacks. Solana literally has to do a network reboot," Hudson emphasized. The software developer added:

I don't like the rhetoric and comparisons with Ethereum [ Anatoly Yakovenko ] and others have been tweeting all day because it feels disingenuous and minimizes the issues Solana has faced. I also don't like that some people in the Ethereum community are bashing Solana for having to restart it manually. Ethereum could just as easily find itself in a similar position if the merge has a flaw. That being said, I bear Solana no ill will and wish them well.

At press time, solana (SOL) is down 7.5% over the past seven days and remains a top 7 crypto asset in terms of market valuation. The incident did little to hurt people's market perspective and SOL prices have gained in the last four hours.
